Atlassian Team ’26 Europe: AI, Rovo and the Future of Work

Exploring Atlassian’s Vision for the Future

Our colleague Auke Jilderda attended Atlassian Team ’26 Europe, together with ten other colleagues from knowmad mood, to explore Atlassian’s latest developments, strategic priorities and vision for the future of teamwork.

The main theme was making agents proper, governing parts of the development environment, as opposed to bolt-ons. Agentic Multiplayer Protocol (AMP) was the headline.  AMP is a framework for interaction between humans and agents, more of a diplomatic protocol than a technical one. AMP builds on A2A and MCP but focusses on interaction patterns.  Atlassian’s UI intends to show what was done by a human, an agent, an agent on behalf of a human, or a human assisted by an agent.  Governance and identify was the second theme, with a new identify class for non-human participants, and role-based access for those.

Interesting Conversations and New Perspectives

Beyond the official programme, the event provided opportunities for interesting conversations and valuable exchanges with other attendees. These discussions offered additional perspectives on Atlassian’s evolving ecosystem, the opportunities presented by AI, and the practical considerations organisations face when implementing new solutions.

Attending as a group of eleven from knowmad mood also created an opportunity to share impressions, compare perspectives and discuss how Atlassian’s strategic direction relates to the challenges and opportunities our customers encounter.

A Strong Vision but Practical Questions Remain

While Atlassian presented a clear vision for the future, some important real-world challenges received comparatively little attention. Topics such as the transition from Data Center to Cloud, the shift from user-based to usage-based pricing, and the implications for apps, add-ons and services were largely absent from the programme.

Similarly, there was limited discussion of critical perspectives, potential challenges or how organisations can navigate these changes in practice.

Our Takeaway

Atlassian Team ’26 Europe offered valuable insights into Atlassian’s strategic direction to enable the growing role of AI, collaboration while ensuring governance and control.

For us at knowmad mood, the key takeaway is that understanding Atlassian’s vision is only part of the picture. Equally important is translating that vision into practical solutions that address real business needs, existing system landscapes and the challenges organisations face along the way.

The event provided plenty of food for thought and interesting conversations to continue long after the event itself.
